“What you resist will persist”

~ Carl Jung

With the ever expanding waistlines of North Americans, it is clear that the battle of the bulge isn’t working. A new approach is needed for success in this area.

If the Upanishads reported 1000’s of years ago that thoughts are the seeds of actions and habits, it is an avenue for people to achieve a new outcome.

“As a man thinketh in his heart.”

~ James Allen

Thoughts, feelings, emotions and actions need to be in harmony for purposeful outcomes. When all four are aligned, miracled acn occur.

I think it is time to get some sleep. (A lack of sleep has been shown to cause an increase in ghrelin - a hormone that makes you hungry). Hey, I just thought of something….”If I snooze, I lose….”

Conscious Eating

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

“Thinking without awareness is the main dilemma of human existence.”

~ Eckhart Tolle

With 66% of Americans and 59% of Canadians overweight - it is important to look at a thrid statistic: 86% is predicted to be the number of overweight Americans by 2020.

We simply have to get more conscious about what we are all putting into our mouths. “I can’t believe I ate the whole thing” “My eyes were bigger than my stomach” We are sure you have heard these statements. You might have uttered them yourself.

This has to change. True mastery over food and becoming free from constant dieting will only come when people make peace with their bodies and eat more mindfully.

“How is this next food item going to serve me?” “What is going into my grocery cart - how will it bring me closer to how I want to look and feel?”

Have a good week

Excuses Be Gone

Saturday, August 29th, 2009

We just came across a very good book, Excuses Be Gone by Dr Wayne Dyer PhD. It his most recent best seller. It goes deep into how people get locked in to bad habits and then rationalize why they are not living the good life.

This entire book could be applied to losing weight, developing the exercise habit, and then enjoying the journey. You have to try something new sometimes in the Battle of the Bulge! Okay, we don’t like using that word.

Remember Albert Einstein who defined insanity as doing the same things over and over and expecting a different result? You simply have to keep doing different things to lose those last 5, 10 or 15 pounds.

Do a Google Search on Excuses Be Gone or go to Amazon and read a few pages.

Crave the conversation not the food

Friday, August 28th, 2009

Many of us have lunch and dinner meetings during our busy weeks. We look forward to visiting with our friends and going for a bite at the same time.

The funny thing is….when we arrive at the restaurant or coffee shop….instead of craving the conversation, we grab a menu and stick our noses in it. The conversation and dialgue needs to be the main course. The food is only the appetizer.

For permanent weight loss and simple nutrition tips:

Busy Busy Busy?

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

The more we witness people trying to find to to exercise and workout; the more we realize “working in” might be a way to solve the challenge.

All the amazing benefits of BlackBerry and Iphone aside, the more we notice people getting 24/7 connected to the outside world, the less connected they are with their inner world.

Chronic detachment from inner self is a sure fire way to have a rocky road.

Why Are Omega 3 Fats So Important?

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

Regular intake of omega 3 fats (fish, dark green leafy veggies, walnuts, flax seeds) in the order of 1000mg per day has the ability to reduce system wide inflammation by 66%

Hummm either I need to go fishing or I need to put some walnuts in my yogurt tomorrow. Another cool idea is to just take some O3mega fish oil supplements from Genuine Health. Love my 03megas: filtered, purified and the source of fish? anchovies and sardines - small fish less likely to have consumed large amounts of toxinds from the oceans.

Who is in your flock?

If you look at the three people in your life you spend the most time with - and look at their current state of health. There is a 95% chance that your state of health is the average of their state of health.

“Sometimes our candle goes out. but is blown into flame by an encounter with another human being.”

~ Albert Schweitezer, author, humanitarian

What is the nuts and bolts of this? Your friends and family can either support your journey to good health or be an obstacle.

If you have no one in your life that is a role of health and fitness, you need to find at least one person to spend time or network with. If it is not possible physically, you can buy a biography of someone who lived a healthy life (Jack Lalanne, Billy Blanks, Kathy Smith, etc)

Water…water…water

Monday, August 24th, 2009

Chronic dehydration is a factor in many physical ailments: joint pain, headache, GI distress, bad breath, etc. Even a vague feeling of unease can be related to not having enough fluids in the body. Studies have shown that as little as a 1 percent loss of water in the body can influence one’s mental and physical functioning.

How much is enough? Great question. Each of us has different needs depending on our weight, activity level, ambient temperature of the environment, and current physical condition.

One easy way to start off the day is to drink a tall glass of water first thing in the morning right when you awaken. A second way to move towards rehydrating a dehydrated body is to carry a stainless steel water bottle and use the entire amount in the day.

Henry David Thoreau said, “The world is but a canvas to the imagination.”

Imagine yourself enjoying outstanding health. All action is proceeded by thought. Think cool refreshing water. Think great health….I have made myself thirsty.

Weight Loss Secrets Revealed!

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009

After three days of lectures and health and wellness presentations at a national fitness conference, I have come to the conclusion that North Americans aren’t lacking in weight loss advice. What they need is to make a personal decision (from the root word “to cut away”) for healthy living; personal accountablity; and then implimentation or execution.

“If you decide to eat too much today - you chose to be heavier tomorrow.”

Physical transformation is easier than you think; it all starts with your thoughts. A decision to eat differently and move a little more.

”Guard your speech as thoughts and words are highyl magnetic.”

Psychologists have reported that humans have anywhere from 10,000 to 50,000 thoughts a day. Ultimately, it is not what people say to us that can hurt us, but what we say to ourselves.

A big part of lecturing on health and wellness is sharing our experiences on how to develop a “fitness mindset.” 80% of the reason why you look and feel the way you do is from the intangibles. Only 20% is related to the particular diet you are on, the exercises you do, or the type of gym you train.
